Ron Lou founded Angry Crab Shack with a core value of giving back to the community. Nine years and 19 locations later that value remains true as Angry Crab Shack has surpassed $1M in contributions to various local charities. Two of the organizations with whom they have partnered for multiple years are Phoenix Children’s Hospital and the Arizona Veteran Standdown Alliance program supporting unhoused veterans.
For the last five years, Angry Crab Shack has sponsored various events for Phoenix Children’s Hospital including the Foundation’s Give-A-Thon, annual golf event and telethon. With their $250,000 donation this year, Angry Crab Shack has exceeded $600,000 in total donations since initiating their partnership with them in 2018. Eager to get in the community spirit, ten Angry Crab Shack employees also participated in the hospital’s telethon by staffing telephones and answering calls over the course of the event.
“We are so grateful for our continued partnership with Angry Crab Shack,” said Steve Schnall, Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for Phoenix Children’s. “Since, 2018, their support has been invaluable to Phoenix Children’s and has made a significant impact on our patient families and programs at the hospital.”
For the last six years, Angry Crab Shack has also partnered with Arizona Veteran Standdown Alliance, a program of the Arizona Housing Coalition that provides supportive services to veterans who are experiencing housing instability. With their “You Dine we Donate” campaign, Angry Crab shack donated 25 cents for every guest that dined at one of their restaurants during the entire month of July. The campaign raised $75,000 dollars to help veterans’ housing needs, putting the restaurant chain over $250,000 in donations to this organization.
“StandDown is a military term to describe time away from the battle frontlines. These statewide StandDown events work to ensure that Arizona’s veterans are no longer battling life on the streets by connecting them to resources to end their homelessness”, said Joan Serviss, executive director of the Arizona Housing Coalition. “Angry Crab Shack’s support of StandDown events has allowed us to reach more veterans in need, crucial during these times of surging rent prices and high inflation. As the organization responsible for hosting and supporting StandDowns throughout Arizona, we also aim to educate the public and policymakers about the challenges and solutions our veterans face when it comes to housing insecurity.”
“One of Angry Crab Shack’s core principles is to be a force of positivity and an active community participant. Being able to help fund medical expenses for families on some of the hardest days of their lives is essential. It’s also important as well as an honor for us to uplift our veterans in their time of need as a thank you for their service and sacrifice,” said Andy Diamond, President of Angry Crab Shack, “If we can ease the burden for those in our community that means everything to our company.”
Angry Crab Shack’s 2022 goals also remain focused on its vision to provide seafood lovers with broad menu choices, outstanding service and genuine hospitality in a one-of-a-kind environment, while continuing to innovate menu offerings and simplifying operations for its franchise partners.
